The Eden Alternative

Choosing a Rehabilitation Center is an important decision whether it is for a short-term or long-term stay. Where you recuperate and gain back your or your loved one’s health can make a difference. Here are some things to check.

Referrals – Consult your doctor, your family and friends. Ask about their experiences with any rehabilitation center? Recommendations?

Staff – Is the therapy staff outsourced or are they in-house staff members? In-house staff means that the consistency of care will be there from the beginning to the end. Are they licensed professionals?

Location – How close is the nearest rehabilitation center for visits? Does it have adequate parking?

Tour – Make sure you visit the rehabilitation center you are considering. Ask for a tour and make notes about staffing, cleanliness, resident care and payment/insurance issues. Inspect the rehabilitation facility. Ask about equipment and techniques specific to you or your loved one’s needs.

Ask to see what room your loved one will be given. Ask about roommates. Look at the dining facilities; ask about diet and nutrition planning. Stop and talk with staff. Do they seem to care that you are taking a tour? Ask for references.

The Rehabilitation Center – Below is an abbreviated check list developed from the California Association of Health Facilities Web site that you should look for in choosing a rehabilitation center.
